This is an assembly plan to teach children about Lent and why Christians perform good deeds during Lent. It is suitable for ages 5 -11. The 4 page plan (pdf) includes an introduction, an anecdote relevant to the children, a parable, a reflection and a prayer to finish. It is highly interactive, with questions and answers throughout.
An optional 19 slide PowerPoint (This is non-editable - click ‘Read Only’ to open) is also included. It contains information about Lent, the anecdote, suggested good deeds and an illustrated version of the parable.
No resources are needed, so the plan is ideal to use without requiring preparation.

This resource is a 3 lesson unit on Pentecost, suitable for using with key stage 2. There are details of activities and differentiation for each lesson. The first lesson involves children writing a poem, the second focusses on drama and the third allows for a more detailed piece of reflective writing, so it is perfect for extending literacy skills into RE. In this assembly, children listen to an Old Testament story. There is a 16 slide animated PowerPoint included which contains the story. (This is non-editable. The plan finishes by introducing children to what happens on Ash Wednesday and how this is linked to the story the children have heard and to their own lives.

This resource is a comprehension activity based on the year 6 reading comprehension SATs paper.
The theme is the story of Palm Sunday, which I have rewritten to resemble the style of the reading paper. There is a reading booklet and an accompanying question booklet, which contains a range of questions based on last year’s paper. Answers are also included.
I have included 3 differentiated levels. The Higher Ability level (801 words) is similar to the SATs paper, whilst the Middle Ability (741 words) and Lower Ability (615 words) use slightly simplified wording in the reading and question booklet.

This resource is a comprehension activity based on the year 6 reading comprehension SATs paper.
The comprehension text covers the part of the Christmas story when Mary and Joseph travel to Bethlehem, ending with the birth of Jesus. I have rewritten the Bible story to resemble the style of the SATs reading paper. There is a reading booklet of 3 pages, followed by 4 pages of questions, which are based on last year’s paper. There is also a mark scheme at the end of the booklet.
I have included 3 differentiated levels. The HA level is similar to the SATs paper, whilst the MA and LA use slightly simplified wording in the reading and question booklet and could also be used by year 5s.
